Northern California, Oregon, Washington & British Columbia
Dax starts fishing for steelhead as early as June in Southern Oregon and Northern California on the famed Rogue and Trinity rivers.
Being a committed traditional swing angler, Dax has the utmost respect for the steelhead he is targeting and the beautiful rivers that they are found in.
He has come to the understanding that the rewards gained in the pursuit of steelhead lie in the act and process of angling itself, as well as the desired final outcome of bringing one of these magnificent fish to hand.
Respect the process, respect the history, respect the fish and good things will happen.
Dax has a quiver of spey rods, lines, flies and everything else you need for your introduction into the pursuit of steelhead with a spey rod.
You won’t ever catch a steelhead on a dry or the swing if you never try.
A committed angler will reap the unforgettable rewards of steelheading.
Dax’s primary steelhead guiding and spey casting instruction venues are California’s Trinity River and Southern Oregon’s Rogue River during the summer and fall months.
These are prime venues for spey casting lessons with the added bonus of hooking a steelhead while you are learning this art form.
For winter fish, Dax heads to the Coast of California and Southern Oregon for the ultimate challenge for the dedicated steelhead angler…chasing winter steelhead with the swung fly. Epic.
Dax spends September hosting trips in steelhead
mecca: British Columbia, the ultimate steelhead experience.
He then heads to the
magical Grand Ronde in October to work on the team with steelhead and spey casting
legends Scott O’donnell, Mike McCune, Ed Ward, and Clayton Foster until mid
November. The Ronde is the finest spey water in the Lower 48, with the best group of
spey casting instructors gathering for 6 weeks a year to push clients to an elite level of
angling.
Other rivers include Coastal California’s Smith, Mattole, Van Duzen, and Redwood Creek.
Coastal Oregon rivers include the Chetco, Elk, Sixes, and other small rivers that will go unnamed.
Dax will be hosting a Deschutes River Steelhead trip in October 2011…inquire for more details.
